Joutsen also makes sure that producers without certifications commit to the ethical operating principles Joutsen has, by signing their Code of Conduct guidelines.

The Tauko jacket is made of recycled fabric and the insulation is made of high-quality and responsibly produced European down. The down used is always Downpass, RDS and Duntrack certified.
Unlike most of the down products on the market where the material is washed by the raw material supplier, Joutsen has made up their own process adding to that. Every batch of down they receive goes through our own multi-stage Joutsen Down System cleaning process, developed and refined over decades. In this process, the down is washed thoroughly with water and hot air, without the use of harmful chemicals. The cleaning removes dust, dander, grease, and animal-based proteins that can account for up to 15% of the total weight in conventionally processed down.
Joutsen’s high-quality and pure down has improved thermal insulation, as a result of their cleaning process. This also means that the amount of down used is reduced, while still maintaining the best thermal insulation.
